This year's Art in the Open festival will continue to transform downtown Charlottetown's green space as it features contemporary art works by locally and nationally renowned artists.

It's the sixth year for the festival that features free events for all ages.

A new partnership has been formed with Fdration culturelle de l'P.

"Art in the Open is a barrier-free community-driven event, so it made sense for us to partner with the festival," Fdration culturelle de l'P's executive director Ghislaine Cormier said in a release.

"We are very happy to provide high-end bilingual programming which further opens the festival up to a larger, more inclusive audience."

'Journey of the imagination'

The main event, which runs from 4 p.m. to midnighton Aug. 27, features an open air gallery in downtown Charlottetown.

There will be about 40 artworks, installations and performances for people to discover and interact with during the festival.

Becka Viau, the co-curator and festival organizer, said attendees should make sure to catch the Mi'kmaq Heritage Players at 4 p.m. on Victoria Row and Tanya Davis in Victoria Park, who will perform her piece Communion on the hour from 7 to 10 p.m.

"You don't need a set plan, but there will be some scheduled performances that should not be missed," she said.

"But overall, my advice for festivalgoers is to plan for a journey of the imagination that can take a few hours, and have fun."

Art in the Open runs from Aug. 14 to 27.
