Small fire causes evacuation of Confederation Court Mall

Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown was temporarily evacuated early Wednesday morning after a small fire on the roof.

Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown was temporarily evacuatedearly Wednesday morning after a small fire on the roof.

The Charlottetown Fire Department was called to the mall just before 8 a.m.

Construction crews were doing work on the roof of the mall where the fire started.

People had to stand outside the Confederation Court Mall for about an hour because of the evacuation. (Stephanie Kelly/CBC)

"Some sparks had got into the insulation and caused a small fire that was extinguished before we got there," said Tim Mayme, deputy fire chief.

"It was just basically smoke removal at that point and resetting the system."

Damages were reported to be minor and people were allowed back into the building around 9 a.m.

There were no injuries reported.
