Stratford Diversity Fountain gets its water works a year after unveiling

Stratford's Diversity Fountain, depicting Mik'maq long-distance runner Michael Thomas, is now fully operational about a year after its official unveiling.

The bronze sculpture of Thomas the first Islander to run the Boston Marathon in 1911 was created as part of the P.E.I. 2014 celebrations. It is meant to honour people of various backgrounds who have lived in Stratford.

Water nozzles embedded between two circles comprised of granite boulders spray a light mist around the sculpture.

But the mist was a long time coming.

The town couldn't turn the water on until a flagstone walkway around the statue was completed and the stones were on backorder for several months.
