Domestic animal ban in effect for P.E.I National Park beaches

Parks Canada has put in effect its ban of domestic animals onPrince Edward Island National Park Beaches.

The ban applies to dogs, cats and horses and remains in effect until Oct.15.

Parks Canada officials said in a release the presence of dogs on beaches can disrupt wildlife, including the breeding activity of the Piping Plover, which is an endangered species.

Visitors who ignorethe regulation could receive afine of $125.

Parks Canada said dogs are permitted in all other outdoor areas of the park, but pets must be on a leash at all times and owners are required to clean up after their pet.
