Fatal crash in Tryon leaves 1 dead

RCMP are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 1 in Tryon just before midnight Saturday.

Passenger dead, driver in hospital with non-life threatening injuries

RCMP are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 1 in Tryon just before midnight Saturday.

The 31-year-old passenger, a former resident of P.E.I.who lives in Nova Scotia, died at the scene.

The 26-year-old driver was taken to the Prince County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMPsay blood samples were taken in order to determine the driver's blood alcohol levels.

Both theCrapaud Fire Department and IslandEMS responded.

The highway was blockedforseveral hours while RCMPinvestigated and traffic was re-routed during that time.

RCMP sayspeed, alcohol and failure to use seatbelts are believed to have played roles in the crash.

There has been an increase in highway traffic deaths on P.E.I. highways in 2015.
