Firefighter honoured for 42 years service

A Prince Edward Islander has been named the recipient of the 2013 Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

A Prince Edward Islander has been named the recipient of the 2013 Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Miles Boulter's 42 years of volunteer service started with15 years in the O'Leary Fire Department. He is currentlythe chief instructor of the P.E.I. Firefighters' Association school.

Boulter said he is honoured and humbled and excited by the award. He is also excited about the legacy fund attached to the award, $34,000 worth of equipment that will go to the firefighter school.

"That is really awesome because if you look at an organization like ours, $35,000 free to buy this type of equipment, [it] would probably take us years to buy this amount of equipment that's coming with this award," he said.

Boulter will receive the award in Ottawa in September.
