A special garden has been planted in Victoria Park in Charlottetown to attract special guests.

The garden's habitat was planted to attract hummingbirds.

The new garden is part of the Hummingbird Habitat Enhancement and Education project.

Project coordinator Brenda Penak says the garden will show people the kind of habitat they can create to attract more hummingbirds.

"We've tried to find those species that are attractive to hummers. A lot of people think they're only attracted to reds, but they will be attracted to blues and purples," said Penak.

"So we have different formations of flowers. A lot of them enjoy nodding heads of flowers where their beaks can get into those types of flowers.

The garden is a joint project of the Island Nature Trust and the City of Charlottetown. It is funded by the TD bank and Charlottetown's micro-grant program.

The city is holding events Wednesday and Thursday to celebrate hummingbirds.

A presentation will be held at the Confederation Centre Library from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

Thursday's presentation will take place in Hampton at Bites Cafefrom 7:30 to 9 p.m.
