P.E.I. women with incurable breast cancer now have support group

P.E.I. women diagnosed with incurable breast cancer now have a group they can turn to for support and information.

The group's founder, Sharon MacNeill, learned she had stage-four metastatic breast cancer three years ago.

The 63-year-old remembers the struggles she faced early on, especially finding reliable information.

"I felt so alone and I felt like, 'Oh, I have to find out this, I have to find out all these things and I have to do it by myself,'" said MacNeill.

"Where was everybody else? We just didn't connect. Well, since I have connected with some Facebook groups we share a lot of resources and a lot of good resources. You still have to filter out what is good and what isn't good, you do. You know Dr. Google doesn't treat you. But it's cut down on my research a lot. That's been good for me."

MacNeill has created a closed Facebook group called P.E.I. Metastatic Breast Cancer Survivors that can only been seen by members to discuss experiences and share information.

She said face-to-face meetings could also take place from time to time.
