Islanders flock to Black Eyed Peas

A 10-hour concert featuring hip hops stars Black Eyed Peas draws a record crowd of 15,000 to an outdoor venue in Charlottetown

The Blast on the Beach turned out to be a stellar night at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Sunday.

Headlined by hip-hop stars The Black Eyed Peas, a 10-hour concert the largest ever held on Prince Edward Island brought out 15,000 fans who partied along with the music of Pussycat Dolls, Stabilo, Mobile and the Philosopher Kings.

"There was a lot of energy on that field today and a lot of smiling faces coming in," said David Carver, the event promoter, who credited the Peas and Dolls with seeing beyond large cities for the concert's creation.

"The fact the Pussycat Dolls and the Black Eyed Peas came here and are committed to playing in a place where a lot of bands won't play, [that] commitment is stellar," he said.

Charlottetown put its entire small police force on alert for possible trouble at the event, but no serious incidents were reported.
