Comparing Target Charlottetown's inaugural day, Nov. 13, 2013, to the opening of its liquidation sale.

About 30 people gathered for the Charlottetown Target liquidation sale before the store opened Thursday morning.

The company announced last month that it will be closing all 133 stores across the country.

Thursday was the first day of the Canada-wide sale.

"I wasn't quite sure how many people were going to show up, so I wanted to get in there early and try to get in and out before the weather gets worse," said Brittney O'Donnell.

Merchandise is advertised as being up to 30 per cent off right now.

Chad Bolton was pleased with the discount.

"It was pretty good actually. It wasn't too bad. The items I wanted were on sale, so I was happy."

But Haley Butler was disappointed.

"They didn't have any door-crashers or anything. It wasn't really what I was expecting. Everything's just like 10, 20 per cent off."

Target's website says the the liquidation process will likely wrap up in May or June.

A Target employee contacted CBC P.E.I. and saysmorale at the store is low.

The worker says some of the more than 100 employees have quit to get new jobs.

There is still no word on what will happen with the space in the Charlottetown Mall. Local mall management referred media inquiries to its head office, Rio-Can, and calls were not returned.
