More jobs, more workers in amended StatCan report

Amended employment numbers for July issued by Statistics Canada on Friday did not radically change the picture on P.E.I. for the month.

Amended employment numbers for July issued by Statistics Canada on Friday did not radically change the picture on P.E.I. for the month.

The amended numbers show 300 more jobs and 200 more people in the workforce. The unemployment rate did not change, and remains at 9.4 per cent. The report also showed a stronger swing from part-time to full-time jobs.

June and July were the first consecutive months with unemployment below 10 per cent on the Island since 1978.

Statistics Canada announced last Monday there was an error in the July jobs report, and revealed Friday that across Canada 42,000 jobs were created in July, and not the 200 it originally reported.
