Mountie injured in Confederation Bridge incident still in hospital

The Mountiewho was injured on the Confederation Bridge after being dragged by a stolen vehicleon Sept. 1 will remain in hospital until next week, say RCMP.

Const. Ryan Jewett, 33, of the East Prince detachment, is recovering at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown.

He was dragged after a manwho had been walking on the bridgewhere no pedestrians are allowed, commandeered a bridge servicepickup truck and sped off toward the New Brunswick end of the structure. There the driversmashed into two vehicles, one of which was was another bridge service truck that was used to block theroad.

Jewettsuffered a broken legandankle.

An RCMP spokesperson says hehas considerable healing to do but he is on his way to a full recovery.

Scott AlexanderMcNally,28,of Borden-Carleton, was charged in the incident and remains in custody.

His next court appearance isSept. 21.

Charges against him include being criminally negligent in the operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, flight from police, theft of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and causing damage to motor vehicles.
