Could P.E.I. be part of future Outlander book? Author says yes

A historical tour of Prince Edward Island could lead to popular author Diana Gabaldon including the province in one of her future books.

Known for her book seriesOutlander, Gabaldon agreed to visit the Island and do a book signing if she could stay an extra day and have a guided tour.

The author was a part of the Frye Festival in Moncton this past weekendbefore travelling to the Island.

The books and popular TV series tell the story of a Second World War British army nurse, Claire Randall, who is transported back in time to 1743. There she is forced to marry a Scottish warrior, Jamie Fraser.

The books follow their adventures through time.

A bit of planning

Gabaldon told Mainstreet host Angela Walker while she doesn't plan her books out too far in advance, she does know a few things that will be included, just not how as yet.

"Well, one of the things I know is that the survivors of Castle Leoch, the MacKenzies, after Culloden were some of the Highlanders who came up the Atlantic coast. And I'm reasonably sure they settled here on Prince Edward Island."

After asking for the extra day, the author said the owners of the Bookmark offered to cover her stay and provide the tour in exchange for a book signing being held Monday night at the Convention Centre.

Gabaldon said the tenth novel will likely be the last in the series.

"People are mostly interested in the characters. They want to know what's up with these people, they want to follow them, they care about them immensely.

"And if they run out of things to read, they go back to the beginning and start reading over just to spend time with these people whose personalities they appreciate."
