5 fun things to do on P.E.I. this weekend

While summer is winding down and temperatures are cooling, it doesn't mean there isn't plenty of outdoor activities to do this weekend, especially if you're a music fan. But if you're interested in something other than live music, there are some other fun options to consider.

1. Tragically Hip viewing parties

You don't have to be in Kingston, Ont., to see the Tragically Hip's highly anticipated final concert of the Man Machine Poem tour on Saturday night.

In Charlottetown, fans can go to Victoria Park to watch the concert streamed live on CBC on a large multimedia screen.

Admission is free, but donations will be collected for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research. In Summerside, the concert will be live streamed at the Green's Shore festival grounds.

Donations for the Canadian Cancer Society will be collected as admission. The concert starts at 9:30 p.m Atlantic Time.

2. P.E.I. Red Clay Bluegrass Festival

If the Tragically Hip isn't your thing, music fans can check out the 16th annual Red Clay Bluegrass Festival in Tignish. Some of the acts scheduled include Gordie Mackeeman and His Rhythm Boys, Winterline and New Vintage.

A pass covering Friday to Sunday costs $45 and includes a barbecue meal on Saturday. There is an open mic scheduled for Thursday night for $10 admission.

3. River Days Festival

Another musical and events option this weekend is the River Days Festival in Stanley Bridge.

Described as an eco-friendly festival to raise watershed awareness, the festival is planning a boat parade, bridge lighting, live music, 50-50 draws and lots of food.

The festival begins Friday night and wraps up on Sunday.

4. Old Home Week

Visitors will get one last chance this weekend to get close-up to farm life and check out Old Home Week. The annual event wraps up on Saturday, but there is still plenty going on.

Scheduled events include the beef show, performances by comedian and juggler Josh Casey, pedal tractor pulls, midway rides, harness racing and multiple showings of The Cutest Show on Earth an opportunity for kids in the audience to participate in live theatre.

5. 1916 The year the Great War Came to Summerside street exhibit

There is more to do on the Island this weekend thanmusic events.

Visitors to Summerside can learn more about the city's wartime history by strolling down Water Street and checking out a series of interpretative panels. The street exhibit 1916 The year the Great War Came to Summersideis expected to run until October.
