Messy P.E.I. winter forecast by Accuweather

AccuWeather released its winter forecast for P.E.I. this week, and it doesn't look like it's going to be a good year for basements.

AccuWeather released its winter forecast for P.E.I. this week, and it doesn't look like it's going to be a good year for basements.

"We're not predicting a cold winter," AccuWeather meteorologist Brett Anderson told CBC News.

"Atlantic waters are well above normal [temperature]."

But just because it's not going to be cold does not mean it won't be messy. Those warmer ocean waters are expected to feed a stormy season with January and February predicted to be particularly stormy.

More snow for Prince County

With the warmer temperatures those storms are forecast to be a mix of snow, ice and rain.

Snowfall amounts are expected to be about normal, or a little above in Prince County, but with so much of that forecast depending on the temperature, it is difficult to predict.

"It might only take a couple of snowstorms to get you above normal," said Anderson.
