Annekenstein now a family affair

Annekenstein, a loving spoof of all things Anne of Green Gables, popular in Charlottetown in the 1990s, returns to the stage this Saturday as a family legacy.

Annekenstein, a loving spoof of all things Anne of Green Gables, popular in Charlottetown in the 1990s, returns to the stage this Saturday as a family legacy.

Rob MacDonald, who co-created the show in 1991, will be back in the cast, and joining him on the stage will be his son, Cameron MacDonald.

The younger MacDonald is not even as old as the show itself, but he told CBC's Island Morning it has always been part of his life.

"It's always kind of followed me around as a legend. If I ever say, 'My dad's Rob MacDonald,' the first thing people will say is, 'Oh! Annekenstein.' It's always been lingering," said Cameron MacDonald.

"It's awesome being able to be a part of these old sketches."

Annekenstein ran for seven years at the Guild, and is back at the Guild for this summer. The show will include some classic sketches from the original Annekenstein along with some newer material.
