Cheers for beers? P.E.I. Brewing Company wins 4 national awards

The P.E.I. Brewing Company took home some major hardware four gold medals from the Canadian Brewing Awards and Craft Brewers Conference in Vancouver, B.C., over the weekend.

"We don't even know what to say right now other than thank you, thank you, thank you!" the Charlottetown-based brewing company posted on its Facebook page Sunday, along with a photo of its four gold medals for Setting Day Saison, Sir John A's Honey Wheat Ale, Vic Park Pale Ale and Rogues Roost IPA.

"We love what we do and love to share it with y'all. Cheers!" the post concluded.

The competition bills itself as the only truly national contest that invites breweries of all sizes from across the country to compete in a blind tasting to see who creates the best beers and ciders in a variety of styles, according to the awards website.

A panel of approximately 40 certified beer judges consider five criteria aroma, appearance, flavour, mouth-feel and overall impression when judging the beer.

"The competition also serves as an important vehicle for informing the Canadian craft beverage-drinking public about the variety of and quality of commercially available beers/ciders throughout the land," the website says.

The contest attracts everything from small startups to large beer companies including Molson and Moosehead. P.E.I. company DME Brewing Solutions is one of the sponsors.
