Multiple charges laid against inmate at Provincial Correctional Centre

Multiple charges have been laid against an inmate at P.E.I.'sProvincial Correctional Centre.

The charges follow an incident onFriday that was described in court documents as an escape attempt.

A man has been charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and destruction of property in this case, a window.

Court documents allege a shard of glass was used to threaten a worker at the jail.

The accused appeared in court Monday via video link and will stay in custody. His next appearance was scheduled for later this month.

The provincial Department of Justicesaid no one was injured, but confirmedrestrictions were placed on inmates whileRCMP conducted an investigation.
