Food trucks for Christmas? Charlottetown closer to allowing them year-round

Charlottetown city council appears to be ready to allow the year-round operation of food trucks.

City bylaws forced the shutdown of food trucks on Nov. 1. Under the current rules they can reopen May 1.

But that appears to be set to change.

At Monday night's council meeting an amendment to the bylaw passed first and second reading. It would allow food trucks to operate year-round on private property. They would still be excluded in the 500-lot area, which is most of the area south of Euston Street.

The amendment is expected to pass third reading at the next council meeting, scheduled for Dec. 12.

If it passes the change would go into effect immediately.
