Arrest made after phone and oil tank lines cut in Charlottetown

A Charlottetown man has been charged in connection with an investigation into someone cutting telephone and furnace oil lines to several buildings on Oak Drive.

A police news release issued Monday said the man, 42, was arrested on Friday.

Charlottetown Police Deputy Chief Sean Coombssaid all the incidents involved the same multi-unit building in the city's north end.

Members of the street crime unit were watching the site after the initial complaints came in starting Jan. 19, and observed someone in the process of cutting the oil line, he said.

"That caused extensive damage," Coombs said."As you know, when you're dealing with oil, it's a very extensive cleanup."

The suspect has been released after being charged with mischief under $5,000 and will appear in provincial court on an unspecified date.
