No outdoor fire ban in Charlottetown, for now

Outdoor fires in Charlottetown won't be banned just yet as a recent council meeting found the committee tasked with looking at a ban still has questions about what it would look like.

Committee says more research needs to be done before banning outdoor fires

Outdoor fires won't be banned in Charlottetown yet, city council as told Monday.

Outdoor fires in Charlottetown won't be banned just yet as a recent council meeting found the committee tasked with looking at a ban still has questions about what it would look like.

"We have to get a happy medium we need more research into this," saidEnvironment and Sustainability Committee committee chair Bob Doiron at Monday's council meeting.

"Where do we start and where do we end? Do we want to ban all outdoor fires all together so that goes to barbecues, does it go to wood stoves, pellet stoves? You know these little fire places that families buy and roast marshmallows with their kids are we going to ban those as well?"

The Environment and Sustainability Committee was recently asked to look at a ban by Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy, who said he was getting complaints from residents with breathing issues.

Previously, Duffy had asked the Protective Services Committee to look at a ban last fall, which the committee decided not to go through with.
