A storm could bring a significant amount of snow to Prince Edward Island on Christmas Day, says Environment Canada.

The agency issueda special weather statement for all of the Island at 4:35 a.m. Friday.

A low pressure system is forecast to develop off Cape Hatteras on Sunday, Christmas Eve, and intensify as it moves northeastward towardP.E.I.

Snow is expected to begin to fall in the afternoon on Christmas Day and continue into the evening. High winds will blow the snow around, causing issues with visibility Christmas night.

It is too early to forecast snowfall amounts with any accuracy, says Environment Canada, but current weather models suggest it will be more than 15 centimetres.
