Charlottetown street closures, route announced for Christmas parade

The City of Charlottetown is advising residents about street closures on Saturday for the 18th annual Christmas Parade.

Parade scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday on University Avenue

The City of Charlottetown is advising residents about street closures on Saturday for the 18th annual Christmas Parade.

Parade scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the UPEI campus on University Avenue. From there, the parade heads downtown and turns right onto Grafton Street. It continues on Grafton until it turns right onto West Street. The parade ends at the Provincial Government building parking lot, according to a city press release.

To accommodate the parade, the city will be close the following streets from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday:

  • University Avenue from Enman Crescent to Euston Street
  • Great George Street from Euston Street to Grafton Street
  • Grafton Street from Prince Street to West Street
  • West Street from Grafton Street to Kent Street
  • Kent Street from West Street to Terry Fox Drive

Parking is prohibited on those streets during the parade. Anyone parked on those streets after 4 p.m. will have to wait until the end of the parade to move their vehicles, according to the city.

Collecting letters to Santa

The Food Bank will be collecting donations and Canada Post representatives will be collecting letters to Santa Claus along the parade route beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Prior to the start of the parade, there will be free balloon twisting and antler hats [while supplies last] for children at the Confederation Court Mall from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. After the parade, Santa Clauswill be at the mall from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
