Day 1 of the P.E.I. election campaign

This is the first full day of the provincial election campaign after the governing Liberals called the P.E.I. election for April 23 on Tuesday evening.

This is the first full day of the provincial election campaign.

Liberal LeaderWade MacLauchlancalled the P.E.I. election for April 23 on Tuesday evening.

The Liberalskickedofftheir campaign Wednesdaymorningannouncing a jobs platformwith a commitment toadd 3,500 new full-time jobs over the next four years.

Two Greens have decided not to run.Josh Wealewas nominated last summer but pulled out of the candidacyearlier this month citing family and career demands, andDistrict 4 candidateMatthew Keeping, nominated earlier this month,dropped outTuesday evening.

The Greens plan to hold a nomination meeting tonight at 6:30forDistrict 27 Tignish-Palmer Road at theTignish Legion.Sean Doyle is the uncontested nominee for the party.

P.E.I. PC Leader Dennis King attended a KensingtonandArea Chamber of Commerce event for the launch of thePartnership for Growth,which is bringing together 20 Island businesses and organizations to lobby on economic issues during the election. Green candidate Hannah Bell was also at the event.

The PC Party is holdinganomination meeting for District 21 Summerside-Wilmot and District 22 Summerside-St. EleanorsWednesdayat Credit Union Place in Summerside.

King also announced the first in what the party said will be a series of economic policy proposals.

He said if elected, the party would raise the basic personal tax exemption to the national average of $12,000,increase the base amount of the Low Income Tax Reduction program, andlower the small business tax rate.
