Day 18 of election campaign: Advance polls open as leaders canvass for votes

It's Day 18 of the P.E.I. election campaign, and while candidates were out canvassing, Islanders began casting their votes.

The advance polling days are Saturday, Monday and Thursday. All advanced polls are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voting locations will be on voter information cards sent by mail. If cards haven't been received they can be obtained by calling ElectionsPEI or by visiting their website.

Meanwhile,leaders of P.E.I.'s political parties continuedon the campaign trailSaturday.

Green Party Leader Peter Bevan-Baker was scheduled to spend the morning campaigning in District 1 (Souris-Elmira) with Green candidate Boyd Leard.

At 3:30 p.m., he met with John Allen MacLean, candidate for District 3 (Montague-Kilmuir), at Copper Bottom Brewing.

At 7 p.m., Bevan-Baker and the candidates from Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 were to host an evening of music and celebration at The Kings Playhouse in Georgetown.

NDP Leader Joe Byrne spent the day canvassing in District 12 (Charlottetown-Victoria Park).

PC Leader Dennis King hosted a meet-and-greet event in Hunter River in the morning and canvassed in District 15 (Brackley-Hunter River) during the day.

The PCs announced they would address traffic concerns they've been hearing from residents in East Royalty.The party said it would commit to creating better traffic access from residential areas, improving transit coverage, making the area more accessible for cyclists and pedestriansand providing a clear timeline for work to be done.

Saturday night, King was to scheduled to attend the P.E.I. Standardbred Horse Owners Association's annual awards banquet in Charlottetown.

Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlanspent the day campaigning in District 8 (Stanhope-Marshfield).

Islanders go to the polls on April 23.
