East Coast Music Awards: A look at some of the P.E.I. musicians nominated

This nominees for this year's East Coast Music Awards have just been announced, and there are many Islanders among the nods.

Raccoon Bandit, Coyote, Tim Chaisson, Whitney Rose and SORREY among P.E.I. musicians nominated for ECMAs

Whitney Rose, Tim Chaisson and SORREY are among the P.E.I. musicians nominated for this year's East Coast Music Awards.

This nominees for this year's East Coast Music Awards have just been announced, and there are many Islanders among the nods.

Tim Chaisson'salbumLost in Lightis up forCountry Recording of the Year, and Chaisson was also nominated for Fans' Choice Entertainer of the Year.

Whitney Rose, who now makes her home in Toronto, is also a nominee for best CountryRecordingwithHeartbreaker of the Year.

Lonely Kid'sFor My Friendsis up for Dance Record of the Year.

Kelley Mooney's Still is nominated forGospel Recording of the Year.

Coyote's albumProof of Life is nominated forGroup Recording of the Year, Pop Recording of the Year and Rising Star Recording of the Year.

SORREY'sThick As Thievesalso got a nod forPop Recording of the Year, withEmilee Sorrey heading up the dream-pop group.

And Raccoon Bandit's Close your Eyesgot a nod for Rock Recording of the Year.

The East Pointers' Secret Victoryis nominated in the Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year category. The group features cousins Tim and Koady Chaisson along with JakeCharron.

And Vishtn'sTerre Rougeis also up forRoots/Traditional Recording of the Year.

Musicians with Islandconnections among headliners

Musicians with strong ties to the Island are among those with the most nominations on this year's list.

P.E.I.'s Kinley Dowling plays fiddle forSt. John's-based band Hey Rosetta! who are in the running for Album of the Year, Group Recording of the Year, Rock Recording of the Year, Song of the Year, Fans' Choice Entertainer of the Year and Fans' Choice Video of the Year.

JennGrant, who was born in P.E.I.but is now based in Halifax, was nominated forAlbum of the Year, Folk Recording of the Year, Solo Recording of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Fans' Choice Entertainer of the Year and Fans' Choice Video of theYear.

Island festivals, studio engineers get nod

The Island was also nominated among the industry awards.

The Cavendish Beach Music Festival and the P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls were nominated for Event of the Year.

P.E.I.'s Jon Matthews was nominated for Studio Engineer of the Year, as was Daniel Ledwell, who is from P.E.I. and is married to Jenn Grant.

The Harmony House Theatre and The Mack at Confederation Centre were nominated for Venue of the Year.
