International fish-health symposium will attract hundreds to Charlottetown

The preeminent international meeting of fish-health professionals will be held in Charlottetown in September 2018, attracting hundreds of people from around the world.

The Atlantic Veterinary College and the PEI BioAlliance will co-host the 30th anniversary of the International Symposium on Aquatic Animal Health, which is held once every four years.

"It's a little-known fact that P.E.I. has the highest number of fish-health professionals per capita and per square kilometre than anywhere else in the world," David Groman, section head for aquatic diagnostic services at the veterinary college, said in a statement."The P.E.I. fish-health community is proud to be playing host to this prestigious international aquatic animal health meeting."

Rory Francis, executive director of the BioAlliance, said P.E.I. is an ideal location for the symposium because it is home to more than 30 organizations and companies involved with fish health.

"I know that delegates will be impressed by our people and our infrastructure," Francis said.

The event will be held at the Prince Edward Island Convention Centre from Sept. 2 to 6. The Fish Health Section of the American Fisheries Society is also a partner in the event.
