Gas prices up on P.E.I.

Gas prices on P.E.I. went up 2.7 cents per litre on Saturday in an unscheduled increase approved by the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission.

Gas prices on P.E.I. went up 2.7 cents per litre on Saturday in an unscheduledincrease approved by the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission.

IRAC wasn't scheduled to make its next adjustment until June 1. It said the early increase was necessary because of recent jumpsin the wholesale price of petroleum products.

Despite the increase, prices on the Island are not as high as in other parts of the region.

Pump prices in Charlottetown now stand at a mininum 106.4 cents per litre, compared with 109.7 in Halifax, 107.5 in Moncton and 114.2 in St. John's.

Furnace and stove oil prices increased by 3.5 cpl, and diesel by 3.5 cpl. The maximum price for furnace oil will now amount to 71.2 cpl, plus tax.

There was no change in propane prices.

The next adjustment is still scheduled for June 1.
