You're not able to just run down to the corner, call 911 right away and expect someone to be there within a short period of time.- Mike Montigny

The special training is designed for situations when the rescue is taking place in a remote or hard-to-accesslocation, and the rescuer is going to be on his or her own for a longer periods of time, said training officer Mike Montigny.

"When you're dealing with hiking, boating, those kinds of situations, when people are out and far off the path," he said.

"Fall, break a leg, get stung by a hornet or a wasp. You're not able to just run down to the corner, call 911 right away and expect someone to be there within a short period of time."

The training will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The volunteers will be identifiable, with most participants wearing high-visibility orange vests or jackets. There is not expected to be any disruption to traffic or visitor use of the park.
