Energy audits cost slashed with government subsidy

The P.E.I. government has announced a program for homeowners that will pay for half the cost of an energy audit.

Efficiency PEI will offer homeowners $150 toward the $300 cost of an EnerGuide home energy evaluation by HouseMaster Inspection Services.

"We are committed to helping Islanders reduce their energy use and to save money bymaking their homes more efficient," said EnergyMinister Paula Biggar in a news release.

The EnerGuide evaluation will rate a house for energy efficiency, and point out changes that can be made to improve it. Homeowners can learn how their daily activities influence energy consumption and determine which upgrades will best suit their properties.

Renovation rebate increased

Homeowners who choose to renovate after an audit can also benefit from larger rebates. Participants will see rebates on eligible efficiency equipment increased by $50 per upgrade, to a maximum of $150.
