P.E.I. Home and School Federation says student needs are the priority

Thevice-president of the P.E.I. Home and School Federation says parents and schools should have assurances that adequate and equitable resources are being provided to each school.

Cory Thomas was responding to Wednesday's release by theP.E.I. Public Schools Branch of how many teachers each school in the province will have next year.

"I looked at the numbers and from P.E.I.'s home and school perspective, our philosophy is that we always have to do what is best for the child, the learner in school."

Thomas said if it is not the case that adequate and equitable resources are provided then all sides need to sit down and revisit the allocation.

The vice-president said they recognize there are budgets that the province has to deal with.

"At the end of the day, we do need to ensure that the needs of the children within their respective schools are being met for their learning."

Thomas said as a father with two children in the school system, he hopes recommendations made by principals at each school of what is needed would be considered during the budget and allocation process.

Thomas added theP.E.I. Home and School Federationencourages individual home and schools to work with their principals and lobby for the resources that are needed.
