May Run Festival scores $87K in government support

The May Run Festival, a celebration of P.E.I. musicians, will go forward later this month with some government help.

The P.E.I. government is putting up a $69,000 grant, and ACOA is contributing a further $18,000.

Charlottetown MP Sean Casey said Island musicians are doing important work, both culturally and economically.

"These entrepreneurs are creating jobs and wealth right here by sharing their talent with the world," said Casey in a news release.

"P.E.I. has over a dozen internationally touring acts hard-working artists who are promoting their Island home as well as their music to new audiences."

The annual festival is a showcase for P.E.I. artists.

ACOA notes that four times as many Island artists are touring now than were 10 years ago. In the past 18 months those artists have performed in more than 15 countries on four continents.
