They will deliver food to those in need over the next few weeks as part of their observance.

"We are part of a community and this is what we do during the month of Ramadan," said Muslim Society of P.E.I. president Najam Chishti.

"We try to do it all year round. This is where the generosity and cooperation of Islanders is very much appreciated in that respect. Because people do donate, and they do leave lots of food on the doorsteps of our mosque."

Members of society will donate food baskets to people in need. Volunteers will leave food baskets on people's doorsteps.

Chishti estimates that the society will be able to help around 300 people over the next month.

Muslims around the world will also fast from sunrise to sunset.
