Scott Gaudet seeking NDP nomination in District 21 byelection

Scott Gaudet is seeking the NDP nomination for the byelection in Summerside-Wilmot.

Gaudet, a letter carrier and former union president, came a distant third for the NDP in District 21 in the 2015 election. He is hoping to vie for the seat again after it was left vacant by the resignation of former Liberal MLA Janice Sherry on Aug. 1.

"Going door to door in my day job I get a real sense that District 21 has had no voice in government in years and I will end that if elected," Gaudet said.

The NDP will select its candidate Sept. 10.

The date for the byelection has not yet been set.

The Green Party has chosen deputy leader Lynne Lund as its candidate.

Three people have expressed their interest in running for the Liberals: Nancy Beth Guptill, Chris Palmer and Brian McFeely. The party said it will announce its candidate Sept. 14.

Brian Ramsay, who came within 30 votes of defeating Sherry in the 2015 election, will seek the Progressive Conservative nomination along with Norma McColeman, Jason Gallant, and former P.E.I. cabinet minister Philip Brown. The party is holding a nomination meeting Sept. 12.
