Local residents have receivedtheir wish: new, traditional-looking playground equipment has been reinstalled at Charlottetown's Connaught Square.

The former playground, with swings and a slide, was removed by the city in fall 2014 and replaced with more natural-looking gear, mostly designed for climbing and balancing.

But last year, many people complained about the redesign of the area, and dozens voiced their opinions at a public meeting.

"The message was loud and clear we want our playground equipment back!" Coun. Mitch Tweel said at the time.

Thursday, the new, more traditional playground opened to the public. Both sets of equipment will stay. Swings will be installed as well, sometime in the near future.
