Old Prince Edward Home slated for demolition, says province

There's been no interest in redeveloping the old Prince Edward nursing home, so it's headed for the wrecking ball, as soon as the province can come up with the $2.6M for demolition.

It looks like the old Prince Edward nursing home is headed for the wrecking ball.

In response to a question from area MLA Jordan Brown in the legislature Wednesday, Transportation Minister Paula Biggar revealed there had been no expressions of interest in taking over the property.

"We met with members of city council actually just this past week to have some discussions on that," said Biggar.

"There's been preliminary design work done on what would happen when the building is demolished, to look at additional parking space and green space for that particular area of Victoria Park."

Biggar said the province estimates the cost to demolish the building is $2.6 million.

She said the province is trying to come up with that money, and doesn't yet have a date set for the demolition.
