A Charlottetown man has been nominated for a conservation award because of his unique mechanical system that collects rainwater to wash his vehicles.

Leagh Moase created his own rain barrels out of garbage bags and attached a pump to spray the water.

"It's a little pump that you purchase, so I hooked up a couple of hoses to it, cut a hole in the rain barrel and shoved this in and flicked the switch and I can run this to my pressure washer," said Moase.

"It saves some money from the city and I get the benefit of doing the carwash myself without using city water."

Moase also likes that it's soft water, so he doesn't get water spots on his vehicles.

The city has nominated Moase for a Communities in Bloom water conservation award.
