RCMP are investigating a collision involving a school bus in eastern P.E.I. Monday morning.

The collision happened at about 7:50 a.m. on Route 210 near Head of Montague.

The school bus, which was on its way into Montague with 11 passengers on board, was stopped to pick up students with its red lights flashing and stop sign extended, according to police.A woman driving a blue Mazda 3 struck the rear of the bus.

"It appears that the reduced visibility on the road at that time due to the position of the sun may have been a contributing factor in the collision," said RCMP Const. Anne O'Shaughnessey.

School bus damaged but driveable

No one on the bus was injured, but the driver of the car is believed to have serious injuries. The students were transferred onto another school bus and continued on to school.

The driver was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The school bus, while damaged, was driven away from the scene. The car was towed.

RCMP are continuing to investigate.
