School bus, pickup truck collide in eastern P.E.I.

No one was injured Tuesday morning when a school bus carrying students collided with a pickup truck at the corner of the Selkirk and Newtown Roads in Newtown Cross, say Montague RCMP.

At around 8 a.m., the bus was at a stop sign waiting fortraffic to go by, then proceeded into the intersection when the crash happened, police said.

"Any time you are called to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles at an intersection, you are of course first worried about injuries and then obviously with a school bus involved, with having children yourself, you've got that in the back of your mind as well about any injuries to them," RCMP Cst. Robert McDougall told CBC News.

"So thank goodness in this caseno injuries were suffered by anybody which is certainly a relief."

Students continue on

The students, from Montague-area schools, were moved to another bus and proceeded to class.

There was extensive damage to the truckbut not much to the bus, police said, although both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The principal of Montague Regional High School, Seana Evans-Renaud, said she contacted allthe children's parents to let them know about the situation, and has checked with the students to make sure they are doing fine.

The investigation into the crash continues. RCMP said.
