Oil tanks, stair lift part of school summer renovations

The P.E.I. government spent more than $1.2 million on capital repairs in 20 schools over the summer months.

The P.E.I. government spent more than $1.2 million on capital repairs in 20 schools over the summer months.

The repairs included:

  • Oil tank replacements at Kensington Intermediate Senior High, Bluefield High, Birchwood Intermediate, and Parkdale Elementary.
  • Partial roof replacements at Morell High and Hernewood Junior High.
  • A new stair lift at Eliot River Elementary.
  • Parking lot upgrades at Queen Elizabeth Elementary.

Work has begun on major projects at two schools an $8.3 million renovation of cole La-Belle-Cloche in Kings County, and a $15 million renovation at Three Oaks High School in Summerside.

The province also purchased 19 new school buses over the summer.

Schools opened up for the new year Tuesday, with close to 20,000 students attending 62 public and three private schools.
