Plan B protesters still on highway project site

It was a quiet scene at the site of the Plan B highway realignment in New Haven, P.E.I. on Sunday.

Construction crews and protesters both took a break. The protesters disrupted construction of the controversial project for the previous three days.

A handful of the protesters remained on the site camping out in tents, where they kepta close eye on the construction zone. They say they expect construction may resume on Monday.

The project to realign the portion of the Trans-Canada Highway between New Haven and Bonshaw has been the centre of controversy for months. A watershed group says it is worried construction will cause run-off in the West River, despite assurances by P.E.I.'s environment minister that won't happen.

Protesters say they plan to keep their demonstration peaceful, and so far they haven't had any issues with security or the RCMP.
