Province on board for Black Eyed Peas

Several partners, including the provincial government, are bringing the Black Eyed Peas to P.E.I. for the Labour Day weekend.

Several partners, including the provincial government, are bringing the Black Eyed Peas to P.E.I. for the Labour Day weekend.

The band will headline Blast on the Beach in Alexandra Sept. 3. Also confirmed are the Pussy Cat Dolls.

While many are excited that one of the world's top bands is coming to P.E.I., some neighbours are concerned about such a big event so close to their homes.

"My reaction was somewhat mixed. There is some concerns about security and traffic and those sorts of things," local resident Frank Driscoll told CBC News.

"However, Glen Beaton is the owner of the site and he seems to be well aware of those concerns and have significant plans in place to address those concerns. It's going to be a three-day wonder. It's going to be a long cold winter, a long quiet winter. It's going to be two or three days of some excitement and if it goes ahead, we'll survive."

Beaton said the next six weeks will be spent preparing the site, including taking down some trees to improve the sight lines in the natural amphitheatre.

Representatives from the RCMP, Tourism Board and Liquor Licensing Board will all participate in production meetings to get underway on the Island next week.

The event is slated to go ahead rain or shine, and that has 11-year-old Clare Carter, whose home looks over the stage, excited.

"I'm really excited because they're an amazing band and they're my favourite band in the world," said Carter.

"They're coming so close and I can just look out my window and I can have a couple of friends over and have a party and it's wicked."

Tickets go on sale Saturday, with room at the site for 25,000 people.
