Roseville beached minke showed signs of being tied

A dead beached whale in western P.E.I. was buried Thursday morning after a group from the Canadian Wildlife Health Centre studied the giant mammal.

The group believes the minke whale that washed up on a beach in Roseville was an adult male, about eight metres long.

The whale has been dead for a few weeks, but officials say it was in remarkably good condition.

Researchers took measurements and skin samples.

They were surprised to find markings on the tail, indicating a rope or line had been tied to the whale.

Nofollowup is planned as there is no concrete evidence of entanglement.

The whale was buried in the sand by the province's Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries.
