Stephen Lewis to endorse NDP Herb Dickieson's Egmont campaign

Stephen Lewis, activist, United Nations ambassador and former leader of the Ontario NDP, will be in Summerside, P.E.I., Saturday to endorse Dr. Herb Dickieson's campaign in the federal riding of Egmont.

Stephen Lewis, activist, United Nations ambassador and former leader of the Ontario NDP, will be in Summerside, P.E.I., Saturday to endorse the nomination of Dr. Herb Dickieson in the federal riding of Egmont.

Lewis will join Dickieson Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Credit Union Place.

Lewis is a former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations and ex-UN secretary-general's special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa.

His decades of humanitarian work have largely focused on HIV/AIDS and he is co-founder and co-director of AIDS-Free World in the United States.

Lewis, who was appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada, is also a professor of distinction at Ryerson University and a professor of practice in global governance at McGill University.

He was leader of the Ontario NDP from 1970 to 1978 and during that time became leader of the Official Opposition.
