Firefighters in Montague spent hours battling flames that burned through a Montague waste management company Wednesday night.

Its the second time Myers Industries storage and maintenance plant has burned down in six years.

The 15,000 square foot facility caught fire in the afternoon.

"One employee was doing a little bit of machine work in the back of the building," said Jock Beck, deputy chief of the Montague Fire Department.

He said the employee noticed the fire and left immediately.

"Within moments, the whole building was involved."

The fire six years ago was an electrical fire. Officials suspect that may be the cause again.

"Apparently they were bailing some cardboard all day, so we suspect it may be an electrical cause," said Beck.

The owner of the facility was at the scene as firefighters tried to put out the flames. Garth Myers told CBC he couldnt believe it when he got the call.

Myers said hes relieved no one was hurt. They were able to salvage all but one of the trucks.

Myers said theyll still be able to collect waste because the building was used primarily for vehicle maintenance.
