P.E.I. followed a national trend when it came to a name for a baby girl in 2014, but busted out on its own with its top name for a boy.

The top baby names on the Island, from January to November 2014, according to the Department of Health, were

Boys

1. Jack.

2. Oliver, Owen.

4. Mason, William.

6. Henry, Noah.

8. Carter, Cohen, Dominic, Jacob, Logan, Michael, Sawyer.

Girls

1. Olivia.

2. Chloe.

3. Ava, Charlotte, Lily.

6. Ellie, Emma, Mya.

9. Anna, Mia.

Olivia was also the top girl`s name in Ontario, B.C., Manitoba and second in Nova Scotia. Jack, however, did not figure prominently in any of those provinces.

It did not take a lot of named babies to make the top 10 list. There were 10 Olivias and 12 Jacks. At the other end of the list were six Annas and Mias, and the seven-way tie for eighth spot for boys required seven named babies.
