Tory leadership hopefuls commit to running as MLAs

Win or lose, all three leadership candidates for the Progressive Conservative Party of P.E.I. have committed to running for seats in the next provincial election.

Nominating conventions are scheduled overthe next two weeks for the three leadership candidates.

Rob Lantz will be first with the nomination convention for district 13, Charlottetown-Brighton, on Jan. 12. That seat is currently held by Liberal Premier Robert Ghiz, who is not reoffering.

On Jan. 14, James Aylward will seek the nomination for district 6, Stratford-Kinklock, the seat he he currently holds.

Darlene Compton will seek the nomination for district 4, Belfast-Murray River, on Jan. 16. That seat is currently held by Liberal MLA Charlie McGeoghegan. Compton lost to vote to McGeoghegan in 2011 by just eight votes.

The PC Party Leadership convention will be held on Feb. 28.
