Traffic way up at Charlottetown Airport

The second quarter of 2014 brought a big increase in traffic to Charlottetown Airport over last year, particularly in June.

CEO Doug Newson said passenger traffic in the period from April to June was up by more than six per cent, and in June it was 11 per cent.

"It is a little surprising that we're up that much given we didn't really have any additional seat capacity in that quarter," said Newson.

"I think it's really just a sign of increased traffic, especially in the meetings and conventions sector, and, you know, overall early start perhaps to the tourism season."

Newson said airlines are happy with advanced bookings for this summer and have added a lot of extra seats.

This summer there are 15 flights departing daily from the Charlottetown Airport flying direct to Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto and New York.

Newson said when the summer is over discussions will begin about airline service in 2015.
