1 person found dead following Regina house fire

One person has been found dead after a fire at a home in the central part of Regina.

Believed to be city's first fire-related death of 2014

One person has been founddead after a fire at a home in the central part of Regina.

The Regina Fire Department said it received the call at about 6:19a.m. CST.

When crews arrived at 1450 Wascana Street the home was already fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters discovered a body while battling the blaze, which is believed to be the city's first fire fatality of the year.

Amanda Millar lives right across the streetand says she woke up tosirens. She said she looked outside and saw firefighters knocking down the door.

"I did see them carry someone charred, and stiff out, it was not something that you like to see, I made sure my son was out of the way when I sawthem do that," said Millar.

She said she didn't know the person who lived in the home, but thinks it could be a rental unit.

The identity of the person who died was not immediately known.

Police have taped off the property saying they are treating it as a crime scene until the cause of the fire is determined.

The estimated damage was unknown, although the home was destroyed.

The coroner and fire investigators remained at the scene for much of the morningpiecing together what happened.
