Indian Head RCMP say an almost century-old windmill has been stolen from a rural property near Vibank, Sask.

Police said the 12-and-a-half-metre tall galvanized steel windmill was stolen sometime from May 16 to May 19.

Darcy Deck said he and his brother bought the farm 20 or 30 years ago. He said they took down a deteriorating building but kept the windmill in place as a marker for the yard.

They sold the farm a few years ago, but Deck wanted to keep the windmill. He recently made arrangements with the new owner to pick it up.

Deck said the new owner tippedthe windmill in preparation for Deck to come get it. Decksaid that whenhe went to the farm three days later to take it,the windmill was missing.

"My thing is, we're on the Prairies, it's Saskatchewan heritage," he said. "I'd like to keep it here."

He said it seems like Saskatchewan landmarks are disappearing and he didn't want to see the windmill go.

"You're not going to throw it in the back of a half tonne," he said. "I'd really like to get it back."

The windmill is described as missing a fan blade, having bullet holes on it and displaying the word "Chicago" on its tail fin.

RCMP said it would not have been a simple task to steal the large windmill from the property. It would have required at least two people and some sort of equipment.

Vibank is about 50 kilometres southeast of Regina.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the windmill is asked to contact Indian Head RCMP at (306) 695-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
